Harris Hawk Joins Wildlife at Velas Vallarta Puerto Vallarta, Mexico (September 28, 2017) - Velas Vallarta has welcomed a new addition to its wildlife program: Kevin, the 5-year-old harris hawk. After receiving three weeks of training from his coach, Agustin, Kevin hangs out at the resort's pool or beach where guests can watch his regular swoops and soars.
In addition to Kevin, Velas Vallarta is home to some orphaned wildlife like baby and adult peacocks, iguanas, koi fish and turtles among others. The resort's beach is also an active laying ground for sea turtle nests from June to December, taken care of by biologists and field technicians from Red Tortuguera A.C.. Guests staying on property can learn more about sea turtle conservation in addition to taking a complimentary tour through the resort to explore its relationship with local ecology. All interaction with wildlife at the resort is in accordance to strict governmental guidelines.
