Excellent Resort but too may salespeople

We have been to Velas Vallart, Puerto Vallarta last year and we fell in love with place. Our first trip we ended up buying an ownership at the resort and last November 2002 we upgraded our membership to Villa Plus. I guess it is too late now to change our mind in buying the membership but hopefully we can sell it back to them. The sales people are quite nice but not very honest on what they tell you.....something to watch. If you are there listening to the salestalk (more than 1 1/2 hour) do not sign anything until you are quite clear. WATCH FOR SOME OF THE LIES FROM THE SALESPEOPLE. I do not think that they have any conscience at all

Be Carefull, there are TWO OF THEM!

Be careful, there are two resorts, owned by the same group with confusing names. There is Velas Vallarta Grand; and Grand Velas Vallarta. Grand Velas Vallarta is the newest, just opening in Dec 2002. It is also mandatory "all inclusive" ; and there are NO kitchens in the suites at all. There ARE many sales people there, but just get past them because the resort is GEORGOUS! I only say no thanks once to them w hen I arrive. I never acknowledge them again or they will attempt to engage you. Velas Vallarta Grand is older, but still georgous. Most units have kitchens and all inclusive is optional. Its a little closer to town (right next to the airport, YUK) and lots of grown up vegatation. Love them both. They have separate things to offer

Great setting, average meals

My wife & I were guests of time share members from another RCI facility. Overall I'd say our experience was very relaxing, accommodating and a delight. We arrived on 2/21/04 at around noon (for 7 days), and knew the "sharks" were ot to sell us a time share. I concur with previous comments, that the sellers are overbearingly persistent to the point of following you as you walk away saying  no gracias. Be aware that your persistence just needs to exceed theirs. For example, eon day 2, we walked into the lobby, which is where all the sharks hang out, and were asked if we had signed up for the tour? Of course, we said, no gracias. She then asked if she could have our name so that she could place our names on a list. We said, no. She then said we d continue to be harassed until our names were on her  do not call list. Rrrriiiiiight!Once we got past the  shark issue, our time there was very enjoyable. We were in a 2 bedroom suite, with a balcony. Our room was very well kept, linens were changed daily (we also tipped our housekeepers daily, as opposed to the all inclusive end-of -stay tip, as the housekeepers changed about every 2 days). We found this to be very rewarding, as by the third day we had little floral arrangements left in our bedroom and living area. We had one instance of ants, contacted housekeeping, and they took care of it within an hour. For meals, the food quality was certainly was not a five star affair, though the location (we had breakfast by the ocean-shore restaurant), and food service, was wonderful. Again, we found that being gratuitous, paid off huge as our time there progressed (letting the same waiter serve us each meal, breakfast & lunch). As soon as we needed a cappuccino refill, he was there with it. Dinner was the one area (other than the  sharks ) that I d say, caused us to rate Velas a 3. It s not that the food was horrible, or not edible, but you could tell that it was kept in warming trays before being served. The presentation was nice, and because we purchased the all inclusive package, we could literally eat & drink without limit, yet the quality of the evening meal was average.Being that we were guests of RCI members, and not having a choice regarding the all in package, though it was very nice and had a very relaxing time, I probably wouldn t go there again

A dream honeymoon

My husband and I had our honeymoon at this resort this spring. Without a doubt, we were blown away. We expected to have a good time, being it was our honeymoon and all, but we never dreamed we would be treated like royalty all week! We did the all-inclusive deal, which is the only way to go. Without it, you're worrying about what your spending all week, and you can't expect to get things cheap at such a fancy resort. The two restaurants are fabulous, and the menu changes from night to night. You have to make reservations at Andrea's for the evenings, but it's generally not a problem. One of the neat things about it is I tried a lot of new things for the first time...caviar, lobster, lamb, etc. I didn't feel worried about ordering it because we had the all-inclusive package, and I could always get something else, or order room service, if I didn't like it. But that was never a problem. The food is exemplary. We never once went out to eat in town throughout our stay because there was no reason to. During the days, we spent a lot of time in the pool (at the swim-up bar!) or playing sand volleyball. There's always activities going on, for both kids and adults. Also, every night, they have special pricing and transportation to a popular local club. As everyone has already said, the time-share pitch is kind of a drag, but it's worth your time. Just for spending 90 minutes, regardless of whether or not you buy in, they give you discounts on stuff throughout the resortl. We saved over $70 on special tours just because of these discounts. Just be firm. You'll find yourself thinking it might be a good deal after all, but you didn't go on vacation to purchase a time-share. You went to be on vacation! Don't get yourself into something that you never intended. Another thing that is great about this resort is it's so laid back. You won't find crazy spring breakers like you might in Cancun. It's very relaxing and family friendly. Overall, my husband and I were more than satisfied with our choice, and would highly recommend it
